Notes and cover versions
[edit]Interesting quotes about the song here - http://www.bandontherun.com/content/helenwheels.html , (http://72.14.209.104/search?q=cache:HkwO7kW2FmwJ:www.bandontherun.com/content/helenwheels.html+%22helen+wheels%22+-wings&hl=en&gl=us&ct=clnk&cd=5). Perhaps these could be incorporated? And didn't Carly Simon cover this song? Somebody did... Jimcripps 03:28, 27 July 2006 (UTC)
- Currently all we have is Def Leppard. There's a fine 2021 version by J. D. King here, but a secondary source would be needed. Martinevans123 (talk) 12:51, 27 June 2022 (UTC)
which vehicle is the inspiration?
[edit]I heard that Helen Wheels was a dune buggy, not a Land Rover. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rockford1963 (talk • contribs) 03:31, 24 November 2007 (UTC)
- The song is about a journey from Glasow to London and specifically mentions motorway travel as such its unlikely to be about a dune buggy as the journey (Which I know from experience) takes about 7 hours and I believe it would be illegal to drive a dune buggy on a motorway If it were possible to tax and insure to allow for normal road use. Besides all this I'm certain Paul says specifically that its a land rover somewhere on Disk two of the 25th anniversary edition though I'm not sure where.(Morcus (talk) 00:04, 15 March 2008 (UTC))
- The quote from the book makes it very clear it's about a Land Rover. Martinevans123 (talk) 12:46, 27 June 2022 (UTC)
Music video
[edit]There is an upload of the music video at YouTube here, but it does not seem to be copyright compliant. Martinevans123 (talk) 12:48, 27 June 2022 (UTC)
Helen Wheels or Hell on Wheels?
[edit]The article contradicts itself. In the first paragraph, it says the car was named "Hell on Wheels", but in the direct quote from McCartney, he said it was named "Helen Wheels". Plus, the song is called "Helen Wheels", which is about taking a drive in that car. I think the first paragraph should say the correct name (Helen Wheels) and then go on to say it's a pun on "hell on wheels." Dr. Work (talk) 22:45, 6 January 2023 (UTC)
